Legalization and Authentication

Documents issued in a foreign language should be translated into English by a sworn (official) translator before submitted to the consular section of the embassy for legalization and authentication.

Legalization of private documents: (for Nigerians in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland only)

  • Note: All documents must be duly authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja before they can be legalized by the Embassy.

Birth certificates, Marriage certificates and Declaration of bachelor- or spinsterhood/ Affidavit of single status

Requirements:

  • An application letter addressed to the Consular Section, Embassy of Nigeria, Stockholm
  • Actual document to be legalized
  • Receipt/ confirmation of payment
  • A self-addressed envelope (Applicants in Sweden should include postage stamps worth 90SEK and applicants outside Sweden, 10 international postage coupons).

Obs. For the document ‘Marriage laws in Nigeria’, please contact the consular section of the embassy.

Authentication of Driver’s licence:

Requirements:

  • An application letter addressed to the Consular Section, Embassy of Nigeria, Stockholm
  • Actual licence (original copy)
  • Copy of data page of international passport
  • Receipt/ confirmation of payment
  • A self-addressed envelope (Applicants in Sweden should include postage stamps worth 90SEK and applicants outside Sweden, 10 international postage coupons).

Legalization of company documents:

Corporate documents such as Registration of Company etc. should be endorsed by either the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Chamber of Commerce in the respective country before presented at the consular section of the embassy for legalization/authentication.

This is to inform you that the Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Tuesday 19th October 2021 as a public holiday to mark this year’s Eid -Ul-Mawlid Celebration in commemoration of the birth of the holy prophet Muhammad.
