NBS CONFIRM 7.7% GROWTH IN NIGERIA’S MANUFACTURING SECTOR

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in conjunction with the World Bank has carried out a joint survey which confirms there will be a 7.7 per cent growth in the manufacturing sector. According to the World Bank, the growth pattern was not limited to the manufacturing sector alone but also in the Retail and Sales sector which grew from 22 to 24 per cent within the period under review. The Country Director of World Bank Nigeria, Marie Francoise Marie-Nelly commended the NBS for the improvement in data quality generated for development purposes across the board.

She added that with this improvement she is hopeful that the value and quality generated in Nigeria would be useful not only to the Nigerian government but other governments of other countries in the sub region who may require them for planning purposes. She pledged that the World Bank will continue to support the NBS technically and financially to enable the agency come up with reliable data. The Statistician General of the NBS, Dr. Yemi Kale stated that the NBS strives to produce error free data all the time.
