The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, has disclosed plans to link all state capitals by rail. The President stated that politics is about infrastructural development and creating an enabling environment for business to thrive and that can be done by providing a reliable means of transportation by linking all major cities by rail. Though the proposed rail project has not been captured in Federal Government’s (FG) projects, the President assured that his office will include it as soon as possible.
He said that linking the cities by rail would assist to reduce costs of petroleum products to Nigerians and enhance socio-economic activities in the country. The president also revealed that the contract for the construction of a standard gauge train that will connect Lagos through Ogun state to Ibadan has been awarded and work is in progress.
